Applications such as voice-activated dialing, voice portals, handsfree conferencing, and others are not a panacea. They won't fully support a crippled industry. They will, however, help it to regain its feet. Profit margins are eroding, costs are mounting, and customer churn rates are escalating. Competition is increasingly brutal, stock valuations are plummeting, layoffs are continuing, and legislatures are outlawing handheld cellphones in cars. Lions, tigers, and bears - oh my! Where should an old fashioned, profit-minded wireless operator turn in an environment so overrun with poisoned poppies? If he's paying attention to the marketplace, to consumers, to legislatures the world over, and to me, he'll avoid the yellow brick road and turn to...Voice.
